I love to share the things I'm learning as a new parent with you...especially if you're a new parent or soon-to-be yourself! Since my son has had this horrible virus he's been on medicine pretty much since Sunday which is not recommended or good for infants. When I went into the pediatrician's office a week ago because I thought my son may have an ear infection she said we should be trying Infant Ibuprofen if he was feeling miserable due to teething. So, I thought this must be the preferred medicine. When I called the on-call doc over the holiday weekend he said Ibuprofen was fine because Tylenol wasn't breaking up his fever. But, when I went in yesterday, the doctor said he would advise me NOT to give my son Ibuprofen because we don't know the long-term effects it has on babies yet. Side effects may be stomach problems, aches, diarrhea, etc. with Ibuprofen. All medicines have side effects and Tylenol can cause major damage to your liver but for a baby who was born with a sensitive stomach and is on Sensitive Similac, even though Ibuprofen kept the 104 fever down better than Tylenol, this was not the best choice. He had major stomach pain last night. Ah, we live and learn, right? Needless to say I haven't gotten much sleep the past few nights.
