12/18/15 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Sunday

I apologize for being so sick the past several days.  Whenever I have the flu it takes me a while to recooperate.  This morning I went to church with my Mom and then we went out to lunch.  It is just in the past week or so that my son has begun throwing tantrums - I mean the kind where he lays on the floor thrashing his arms and legs and screaming bloody murder.  He did this in church and I'm not kidding, whenever he has an episode like this it leaves me in a sweat.  Not to mention I'm mortified.  I'm not sure how many times I had to carry him out before I finally signaled to my Mom that we were just going to go.  It's not for any even reason that he acts like this, it's usually because he wants to be able to walk and crawl around.  He gets really mad when he can't get down.  Is it too early to start time outs?!  My husband and I don't even really like going to restaurants anymore because it's just not relaxing.  We'd much rather be at our house or someone else's house because at least he is able to be mobile.  So here I was already exhausted after the church battle and then my Mom and I were going to go out to lunch?.  Was I crazy?  But, I decided to try it...he sure does surprise me.  He was so hungry and tired that he was actually good in the restaurant.  We went to The Works, in Loveland.  It's so delicious and quaint.  I ended up getting a huge salad and a tortilla pizza.  My consultant said don't be afraid to try new things so I did it.  My Mom asked why I always get a salad and eat it first.  This had never occurred to me before, it was a no brainer.  I responded with a statement about how even when I don't completely want a salad I order one, eat it before my meal, so I feel full before I get to the actual entre.  She's a healthy eater and this thought never occurred to her!  She asked how I could justify eating pizza and how was that healthy until she realized what it really was... a woodfired tortilla (literally!) and since this meant such a thin crust it was very little sauce or cheese.  I put grilled chicken and pineapple on top.  I was able to have 3 small slices.  Hit the spot and I felt good about my choice!
